Transportation Manager will provide leadership within assigned locations and has direct financial P&L responsibilities. Directs the operations and outcomes of the warehouse and transportation teams by establishing goals and targets for a staff. The Manager monitors daily activities ensuring safety and compliance with company policies and local, state, and federal regulations. The role oversees productivity and costs and makes recommendations to drive efficiency and savings initiatives. It acts as a liaison between customers, operations, client services, sales, and other support teams and resolves complex customer concerns.

• Plan, organize, and manage the work of team members to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational objectives.
• Manage a staff within assigned locations - select, train, and develop qualified, diverse workforce; establish and com-municate performance standards and objectives; conduct performance appraisals; recommend salary adjustments, promotions, transfers and dismissals; schedule workload, and approve hours. Review and approve hours worked, ensure overtime hours are necessary, meal and rest periods are observed, and workload is scheduled efficiently.
• Provide continuous coaching and feedback to supervisors to improve people and operations management skills.
• Communicate and interpret administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, environmental policies, or government regulations and ensure compliance. Keep teams informed of changes, and new developments in the unit and company by conducting periodic meetings.
• Establish and communicate targets for accomplishments based on company KPIs and mange staff to those targets.
• Review, analyze, and evaluate operations, processes, and procedures and make recommendations for changes to improve safety, compliance, efficiency, productivity, and customer service.
• Actively build and maintain relationships with customers through site visits, industry/company events, and offsite con-versations/meetings.
• Lead the accident investigation process of determining root causes of accidents, on the-job-injuries, property damage, and close calls.
• Develop and manage operational and capital budgets for assigned locations. Oversee all aspects of expense review and payment/invoice approval process. Analyze expenses associated with running the operations, incl. labor costs, disposal, transportation, supplies/containers, equipment rental and other.
• Analyze transportation production reports to ensure improved productivity. Oversee routes and reroutes based on re-porting results. Assist with route rebalance initiatives.
• Oversee the maintenance of Driver Qualification Files (DQFs), DOT Log Files/eLogs and Vehicle Condition Reports to ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
• Conduct safety and regulatory training and compliance, incl. DOT Drug Testing, Medical Examiner’s Certificate, eLog, etc. Develop training content and training materials and create trainings schedules.
• Develop and implement engagement surveys and action items related to survey results to achieve positive employee relations
• Roadnet Fleet view and management; monitor exceptions – provide feedback, coaching and counseling of TMs.
• Manage AM/PM Process (for locations without Manager, Transportation)- conduct regular quality assurance visits; ensure the appropriate and required documentation is complete and accurate to meet State, EPA, DOT and DEA regulations; monitor established performance guidelines (ex: number of stops per day, Smart Drive review); load and unload supplies, including; setting expectations, support routine; manages KPIs; conduct daily tailgate meetings and weekly conference calls with specialists.
• Develop and maintain relationships with vendors supporting the truck fleet, plant operations, and building maintenance.
• Participate as an active member in the Safety Improvement Committee (SIC).
• Manage acquisition integration initiatives.
• Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.

Position requires the following physical activity:
• Climbing – ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps and the like using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized;
• Balancing – maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, or slippery surfaces.;
• Stooping – bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist;
• Kneeling – bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees;
• Crouching – bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine;
• Reaching – extending hand (s) and arm (s) in any direction;
• Standing – for sustained periods of time;
• Walking – moving about on foot to accomplish tasks; • Pushing – using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward;
• Pulling – using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion;

Visual Acuity to include colors, depth, perception and field vision:
• The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle.
The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position:
• The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
• The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving vehi-cles, electrical current, and exposure to chemicals.
• Potential exposure to infectious materials is a risk. Use of company-provided personal protective equipment is required.
Must be able to travel. Travel will vary in frequency and duration.

Job Requirements


• 5+ years of progressively responsible transportation experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• 3+ years of experience managing a team.
• Commercial Vehicle Driving experience preferred.
• Continuous Improvement or Lean experience preferred.
• Demonstrates knowledge of DOT, OSHA, DEA and HIPAA.
• Knowledge of business and management principles involved in leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources.
• Knowledge of principles and methods for moving controlled substances.
• Demonstrates knowledge of inventory management.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services, including meeting quality standards for services.
• Knowledge of safety principles while driving, loading, and unloading vehicle.
• Intermediate skill in using Microsoft Office applications with emphasis on Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Skills to use or ability to quickly learn inventory management and routing software.
