Position Purpose:

The employment paralegal will provide legal and administrative support to the Vice President, Assistant General Counsel of Labor and Employment, and legal department.  Overall, the paralegal will assist with the preparation, coordination and implementation of processes related to the practice of employment law, i.e., prepare responses to subpoenas for personnel documents, communications with various federal and state agencies in charge handling, assist with case management and document collection in both single plaintiff employment cases as well as class action litigation, assist with settlement agreements and file closure, assist with legal holds, and all employment related matters.

Key Job Activities:

Paralegal responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Independently manage the administration of employment litigation matters from service through resolution, including intake of new matters, outside counsel engagement letters, maintaining litigation case files in Legal Tracker database, calendaring cases, and managing settlement and litigation fee processing.
  • Track all employment litigation matters and claims electronically, including creation and regular reporting of employment metrics in conjunction with counsel.
  • Coordinate document collection for discovery in employment litigation and in response to third-party subpoenas and litigation, including liaising with internal clients and operations and external counsel.
  • Assisting with compliance activities including training programs, as well as, preparation and revision of position statements in response to pending claims before various federal and state agencies.
  • Preparing and circulating legal hold retention letters, as well as maintenance of document retention system.
  • Work closely with payroll and other HR personnel regarding other legal support activities including payment of settlements, payroll overpayments, wage garnishments and employee fraud related issues.
  • Assisting with immigration related matters as assigned, including liaising with outside counsel and internal clients to secure necessary documents for visa processing.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Education:
Required Education: in High School or Equivalent
Experience (North America & LATAM):
Required Years of Experience: 0-2
Experience (EMEAA):

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Previous employment and litigation experience.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and day-to-day direction over daily tasks.
  • Ability to responsibly handle highly confidential and market sensitive information and use sound judgment for disclosure of same to those within corporation with a need to know.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Word, Westlaw, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Prior experience with e-billing systems for law firm invoices; prior experience with Legal Tracker (Serengeti) strongly preferred.

Education Requirements:

Paralegal Certificate or Bachelors Degree and 5+ years work experience as an employment litigation support paralegal in a law firm or large corporate law department.
