Position Purpose:

This position will be responsible for the ongoing development, management and execution of the company’s ethics and compliance program in France, Germany and Belgium and the Netherlands, ensuring awareness of, and adherence to policies, processes and laws applicable to Stericycle’s businesses. This position will also support the EMEA Ethics and Compliance Director on projects across the UK, Ireland, and wider EMEA, including leading internal investigations and managing processes that will remediate and prevent compliance issues and create a strong culture of compliance.

Key Job Activities:

Enhance Stericycle’s culture of compliance by effectively communicating standards of conduct, legal principles and behavioural expectations; responding to employee requests for guidance; and advising senior management on complex compliance related issues. Build and maintain strong relationships with and provide support to local business leaders and team members on ethics and compliance issues. 

Internal investigations: i) planning and leading internal investigations ii) preparing interview plans, undertaking interviews, note-taking, collating evidence, and reporting findings iii) identifying process/procedure improvements to increase effectiveness and efficiencies of the compliance program.

Manage and support the deployment of various initiatives related to regional and global training and communications, including conducting in-person training where appropriate, contributing to training materials and designing resources to communicate and raise awareness of ethics and compliance risks.

Collaborate with HR, Legal and other business stakeholders to develop the use of business metrics and KRIs to identify and predict ethics and compliance risk.

Manage the annual ethics and compliance risk assessment for France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, used to identify, manage and mitigate risks.

Advise the organization’s leadership team on risk management, compliance and governance frameworks to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations and best practice as well as the company's policies, procedures and business goals.

Support the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer in managing and preparing for corporate Ethics and Compliance Committee meetings, quarterly Audit Committee meetings and other compliance initiatives.

Manage day-to-day operation of corporate compliance initiatives and programs at the business unit/regional and country level such as managing conflict of interest disclosures, resolving potential ethics and compliance red flags escalated by the business, and building a network of “Ethics Champions”.             

Support anti-corruption initiatives such as the third-party due diligence process, government tender reviews, oversight of expense reporting under the Travel and Expense Policy, Business Courtesies Policy.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education or experience required.  Master’s or legal degree desirable.

Experience (EMEAA):

Minimum of 5 years related job experience in a compliance or related field, such as legal, risk management, or audit.

Expertise in ethics and compliance-related work, including experience with FCPA or other anti-bribery/anti-corruption regulations, anti-competitive behaviour, fraud-related issues, cross-border internal investigations.

An understanding of international anti-corruption laws, including the FCPA and UK Bribery Act, is mandatory.

Proficient at intermediate/advanced level in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Relevant professional qualifications or certifications (ACFE, ACAMS, CCEP, or similar).

Business oriented, ability to think strategically and establish a "trusted advisor" relationship with internal clients.

Experience working in global companies and cross-cultural environments.

Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, including experience interacting with senior managers and an ability to explain complex and challenging concepts.

An ability to engage and win over apprehensive or sceptical audiences.

Self-starter with ability to work with limited supervision.

An ability to work in a team towards common goals.

Ability to handle confidential and/or sensitive information in a professional manner.

Strong decision-making, solid judgment, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and organize work to meet deadlines.
