Position Purpose:

As a member of the Stericycle Marketing and Strategy department, the Public Relations Associate will contribute to the overall effectiveness of the marketing team by planning, implementing and tracking assigned PR programs associated with managing all aspects of our public-facing brand(s). 

 

As a key member of the Marketing Communications team, this role will contribute to the execution of Public Relation (PR) and Corporate Communication initiatives driving positive brand awareness and brand affinity, in addition to supporting the protection of company image and reputation.  The Associate will be accountable for carrying out tactics consistent with the company’s strategic goals and priorities, and under consultation with the Brand & PR Director and Stericycle’s leadership team.
 

Key Job Activities:

The Responsibilities
•    Align PR content/themes with the greater editorial brand content calendars for RWCS and SID.
•    Manage the development of PR content/collateral – i.e. press releases, key message documents, bylines, whitepapers, etc. as needed and ensure a thorough editing and review process and stakeholder alignment/approvals.
•    Liaise with PR agency to coordinate PR activities such as media pitching, issuing press releases, and paid media opportunities.
•    Provide media spokesperson support reviewing briefing documents and organizing media interviews.
•    Project manage the Awards and Recognition Program – facilitating the application development process, including validating eligibility criteria, working with internal stakeholders to develop the application content, facilitating reviews/approvals and developing any support materials (i.e. press release, announcement communications and website updates, etc.)
•    Project manage PR components of original research campaigns and integrated marketing campaigns (i.e. pr, social campaign, display campaigns etc.) with various stakeholders 
•    Track and measure PR program performance on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis and review with PR Director to ensure programs are meeting targets
•    Compile internal wrap reports as required to communicate results of campaigns and initiatives
•    Coordinate requests for internal approvals, graphics, logos, bios, photography and other needs.
•    Manage and update the PR statistics library quarterly.
•    Coordinate efforts for brand activations or other media events including promo/advertising materials, logistics, digital and social requirements
•    Help manage reputation: review or compile media reports, monitor to identify any issues and/or criticism of the company’s brand or services, and document and resolve issues in a timely, accurate and professional manner.

•    Collaborate with other internal teams, marketing, sales Investor Relations, Government Relations and Customer Service 
•    Develop and maintain sound working relationships with vendors. Ensure projects are managed appropriately and funds are spent wisely. 
•    Ensure high quality, timely roll out of tactics through effective collaboration.
•    Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

Education:

•    Bachelor's or college degree in a public relations, marketing or communications discipline or equivalent work experience.
•    2-3+ years’ experience in a Public Relations and/or Corporate Communications role, preferably in a B2B services environment within a complex and highly regulated industry.
•    Ability to thrive, multi-task and be flexible in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment.  
•    Experience writing and editing effective media responses and communications that align with business objectives and key messages.
•    Maintains an extensive knowledge of distinct writing styles, including AP style and can proofread materials for accuracy and consistency. 
•    Experience with the latest PR and corporate communication trends and best practices with a strong attention to quality, detail, and timelines.
•    Proven track record as a collaborator and self-starter who exercises discretion and independent judgment.
