Position Purpose:

Under direction, manages the daily activities of the plant at one or more locations within assigned Region, ensuring that areas are kept within regulatory and safety compliance and operating productively and profitably; providing leadership within the locations as assigned.

Key Job Activities:

1. Selects, trains, and develops an effective and efficient staff: Makes every reasonable effort to select, train, and develop qualified, diverse workforce. Establishes and communicates performance standards and objectives; conducts performance appraisals. Administers all Company policies and procedures, communicates to staff, interprets, as necessary, and ensures compliance and safety. Monitors and ensures that employees are performing their functions safely and productively. Develops subordinate managers and/or supervisors through continue coaching and feedback on performance.

2. Ensures that entire plant is within regulatory compliance, including transfer stations, trucking domiciles, office and support facilities within the plant operation.

3. Manages database to include annual permit renewals, accident and workers compensation records, OSHA 200 logs, etc. Performs periodic facility, safety and OSHA audits. Establishes and maintains effective contact with state and local regulatory contacts and coordinates inspection and customer environmental tours.

Ensures continual improvement of productivity standards and worker safety performance in all phases of the operation.

4. Provides financial forecasting and regularly analyzes on-plan expense performance in order to meet the overall cost objectives of the plant.

5. Establishes production employee work scheduling and processes plant payroll in a timely and efficient manner.

Initiates actions to assure timely resolution of identified hazards or unsafe conditions or practices. Trains production and maintenance employees, when necessary.

6. Strong Maintenance acumen, including but not limited to the following areas: Maintain equipment files, maintain inventory, and manage the expeditious purchase and/or re-supply of components as necessary to complete assigned projects. Power Wiring - Must know 3-phase theory and wiring techniques including troubleshooting, component replacement, and motor wiring. Must know general wiring techniques for 110V system. Air Pneumatics - Must have experience with general air pneumatics, including air compressor operation and maintenance, regulator replacement, solenoid valve replacement, 2-way and 3-way valve, tubing installation, and general system troubleshooting. Hydraulics – Must know how to maintain a hydraulic system including cylinder seal repair, cylinder replacement, bushing replacements (usually by outside machine shop), hose-crimper operation, fluid maintenance, hydraulic pump replacement, valve stack repair and maintenance, fitting specification, general troubleshooting and read a hydraulic flow diagram.

Machining and Welding – Must be familiar with the use of all power tools associated with metal machining. Must be able to use soldering/brazing torches, and acetylene torches for cutting steel. Must be able to operate a stick welder to fuse carbon steel and perform repairs; ability to weld stainless steel or higher alloys or operate a TIG welder are pluses. Capable of performing all maintenance functions, including but not limited to preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance on all equipment throughout the plant. Understanding of boilers, maintenance and associated programs related to the efficient operation of boilers.

Must possess basic understanding of PLC’s. Ability to troubleshoot and complete programming as required on a variety of legacy systems, preferred but not required. Basic understanding of waste water systems, pumps and associated equipment including maintenance and preventative maintenance to ensure optimum performance of the system. Conduct predictive analysis of all process systems and equipment periodically to update Preventive Maintenance system. Provide leadership to all-shift operations crew. Ensure their compliance with directives on Environmental Safety and Health, permit compliance, cost reduction, care of equipment, etc.
