Job Description

This individual will ensure all waste that is collected and/received is properly segregated, treated and/or disposed. The individual will ensure that the work area is maintained in a clean and safe environment. All duties will be performed in a safe and productive manner. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Will receive waste from hospital personnel. Inspect waste for acceptance according to Stericycle waste protocols. Informs the supervisor/manager of any waste compliance issues.
•Separates waste streams into appropriate categories for treatment or disposal: Solid waste - RMW - Recycling - Hazardous - Confidential
•Operates compactors and/or shredders as required.
•Unload waste from incoming vehicles. Separates non-autoclavable waste to be incinerated.
•Stage waste in area and/or properly stack waste for scanning in the Biotrack system for proper recordkeeping purposes.
•Scan waste carts for radioactivity and other adverse materials.
•Load treatment equipment with waste for processing and/or properly package waste for transport off site. Operates RMW waste treatment equipment.
•Wash and decontaminate waste carts manually and/or operates tub wash unit insuring the wash unit is operating properly. Removes clean tubs from wash unit, inspects tubs and stacks for re-use.
•Operates tub wash sprayer for oversized reusable tubs insuring the unit is operating properly. Inspects tubs and stacks for re-use.
•Decontaminates vehicles cargo-carrying portion, reloads assigned re-usable tubs and insures cargo-carrying portion of vehicle does not have free liquid on the floor.
•Make simple adjustment or repairs such as realigning belts, replacing grinder teeth and/or repairing containers, escalating major repair issues to mechanic.
•Maintains a clean environment through housekeeping program. Ensures spills cleaned up, floor is dry, and debris not on floor, etc., are addressed immediately.
•Greets hospital personnel in a professional and friendly manner.
•Assists in other areas of the operation as directed.
•May or may not perform the following: - Perform collection services throughout the hospital. - Interacts with patients and hospital staff in professional manner. - Shift leader responsibilities as needed: ie: staffing, proper safety policies and programs are followed; complete shift required documentation; keep manager informed of any pertinent issues. - Notifies management of waste flow issues on hospital floors. - Assists management in scheduling collection and documenting locations.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:
•High school diploma or equivalent (GED). One year related experience or training or combination of experience and training, demonstrating strong communication skills and tact.
•Demonstrates knowledge of barcode scanning and basic computer skills.
•Demonstrates knowledge of Hazardous Materials and OSHA Regulations.
•Demonstrates the ability to operate powered equipment, e.g., compactor, shredder, waste treatment equipment or forklift.  May require mandatory immunizations and credentialing based on customer requirements *LI
